Receiving Orders
When a guest places an order, it appears instantly on your orders dashboard.
Real-Time Updates
Orders appear in real-time — no need to refresh the page. You'll see:
- Table number — Which table placed the order
- Items ordered — Full list with quantities
- Order time — When the order was submitted
- Total amount — Sum of all items
Notifications
tableQ can notify you of new orders through:
- Sound alerts — Audio notification when a new order arrives
- Push notifications — Browser push notifications (if supported by your browser and you allow notifications)
Note: On some devices (especially iPhone/iPad), push notifications may require adding the site to your Home Screen.
Buttons and icons on the orders dashboard
At the top of the orders board you’ll find:
- Search — filters orders by table number, order number, or item name
- Sound (speaker icon) — turns sound alerts on/off
- Push (bell icon) — enables/disables push notifications for this browser
On each order you can:
- Advance status (main button) — moves the order forward (e.g. New → Preparing → …)
- Cancel (red button) — cancels the order
When an order is Delivered, you’ll also see:
- Move table (swap icon) — opens a side sheet with all tables so you can move the entire session to another table
- Print — prints the bill using your browser print dialog
- Pay — opens a payment sheet to record payments
- Close table — closes the table session (the “bill”)
Move Table
Guests sometimes change seats after ordering. Instead of cancelling orders, you can move the whole session (and every order it contains — including ones that are still being prepared) to a different table.
- On a delivered order card, click the swap icon next to the table number.
- A side sheet opens with all your tables, grouped by zone.
- Tables that already have an active session are marked with an “Active session” badge so you know they’re in use.
- Click a table to move the session. If the target already has a session, the two are merged and the original session is removed.
The change applies to every order in the session (pending, preparing, ready and delivered) and updates on every staff dashboard in real time.
Staff Orders
Staff members can also create orders manually through the New Order feature in the sidebar. This is useful for phone orders, walk-in customers, or orders that couldn't be placed via QR code.
